About Braces

Braces and aligners move the teeth to correct crowding, spacing, and bite problems.

Types of Braces

Metal Braces

Traditional silver metal braces are the most common type. They are cemented to the teeth, and then can be used to move the teeth into place. Wires and elastic ties are also used with the braces to move the teeth. Silver braces are ideal for kids or for the lowest cost option for moving the teeth.

Iconix Braces

Iconix braces are metal braces that are smaller than normal braces, and they have a champagne gold color that is more esthetic than silver braces. They work the same way as silver braces, but they cost a little more. This is a great option for anyone who does not want the braces “metal mouth”. Many of our adult patients and older teens choose Iconix.

Invisalign® Aligners

Invisalign treatment uses clear aligners to move the teeth into place. Aligners must be worn 22 hours a day to move the teeth, so compliance with aligner wear is essential. Each aligner is worn for 1-2 weeks, and then a new aligner is placed. Each aligner moves the teeth further towards the desired position. Invisalign aligners are a great option for anyone who doesn’t want metal braces on their teeth. Some movements are not possible with Invisalign, but we can use Invisalign for most things. Tips for Living With Braces

Braces will feel different at first, but you will get used to them! We will help you learn to adapt to your braces.

Dealing with Discomfort

Your teeth will be sore for a few days after getting braces. Ibuprofen and soft foods are the best things to help with it. Your new braces may rub your lips and cheeks and irritate them. You can use wax to cushion problem areas while your lips and cheeks adapt.

The Dos and Don’ts of Eating with Braces

You should avoid hard, crunchy, or sticky foods while you have braces. These can break the braces and cost extra time and money. Hard healthy foods, like apples and carrots, should be sliced thin and chewed on the back teeth. This will minimize the chance of breaking braces with them.

Taking Care of Your Teeth While Wearing Braces

It is important to keep your teeth clean while you have braces. Food gets stuck around the braces, so you need to spend extra time cleaning it out. This will keep your teeth healthy and your treatment on track. We will give you instructions on how to clean around your braces.

Choosing Your Band Color

The wires are attached to the braces with colored elastic ties. We change the elastic ties every time you come to an appointment. This means that you can choose a different color every 4-6 weeks.
